10 Things I Loved About Paris Today...

1. The fact that everything is closed on Sunday - yes, really. It reminds you that people have lives here and the daily grind is not a priority. I know it is really a Parisian cliché, but life does move more slowly here, which makes everything just that much more sweet.

2. This little glove shop on the Rue de Rennes. I spent all of fall and winter in New York hunting for the perfect pair of buttery soft, fantastically detailed gloves only to come up short. In New York! Now here we are...in Paris. In euros. Sigh.

3. While the rue de Rennes was a ghost town this afternoon, Ladurée was bustling. I went to the less famous location on the rue Bonaparte. I think I may like this one better than the other, which is all gold and cupids and pink cloud confections. The tearoom is set up like an oriental café in the jungle -- wait, that sounded terrible, but it was lovely. The ceiling is tented with green striped ticking and there are green and red leather campaign chairs - the folding kind but they somehow still look cushy. The ceiling is held up by towering metal palm trees, which is not as Magic Kingdom as it sounds, and best of all is the chinoiserie mural covering the walls. I enjoyed my mini (really mini!) pistachio macaron and chocolat chaud but am looking forward to future visits to chez Angelina...their hot chocolate is so sinfully rich and thick that a full serving practically requires detox.

4. How the waiters at Ladurée made it seem like it was their fault that I knocked over the newspaper rack as I was coming in (they kept apologizing! and I kept apologizing! who won?). To be fair, the thing was so rickety that it probably would collapse at the introduction of a light breeze, but still...

5. This young swell's dapper necktie at the Musée Délacroix.

6. The geese (geese!) in the window of this gallery on the rue des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Germain.

7. How lovely Paris is, even (especially?) in the rain - when everything gleams. (1 - the Pont des Arts; 2 - the Rue Récamier)

8. Nancy Mitford was here! ( maybe?)

9. Peeking through the gated windows of this magical antiques store on the Place Furstenberg, near the rue Jacob.

10. For Mom -- a bookstore with gardening books (à droite) and design books (à gauche) on the rue Jacob.

11. Bonus -- this fantastical former seafood storefront - or poissonerie - (reconfigured to a Boissonerie) on the rue de Seine.

Please discover the identity of that little animal covered with Louie Vuiton insignia on the Smart Car in the last photo. It resembles Little Louis Rosenstein. love, Mom

I could have sworn I wrote "Louis Vuiton and Little Louie Rosenstein". Oh, well.
